Tuition Assistance

When a family becomes a member of our Silver Shield family, we work to ensure their sons and daughters get the tuition assistance they need to help pay for college, graduate school, vocational or technical school, and private secondary school.

Tutoring Services

A parent’s death takes an emotional toll on their surviving children. To help keep them from falling behind in their studies our educational fund is structured to help pay for certified private tutors if needed.

College Preparatory Services

Applying to college is never easy, so to help give families the support they need our funds can also help these families cover the costs of academic counseling and college board preparatory courses.

Spousal Educational Assistance

We also provide tuition assistance to the surviving spouses of fallen police officers and firefighters/EMS for college, graduate school, or vocational and technical training so they are better positioned to support their families in today’s competitive job market.

Counseling And Bereavement Services

We also assist in funding for counseling and support to help surviving family members cope with the psychological trauma and other long-term effects of losing a loved one in the line of duty.

Health And Wellness Services

Helping to maintain the health and wellness of our Silver Shield families is also a priority. So, we underwrite a comprehensive medical exam for the surviving spouses that makes a multidisciplinary team of physicians at the New York Presbyterian Hospital Iris Cantor Women’s Health Center available to them as needed.

COMMUNITY

"The Silver Shield Foundation isn't an organization that simply writes a check and disappears. My children and I aren't just another case number. They know us by name. This has become a life-long friendship."
